As a bride, there are many difficult decisions to make. It’s the biggest day of a girl’s life and it’s the day she will show herself to the world in what she believes to be the best way possible. The hair, the makeup, the dress and of course the shoes!
Now, shoes never used to be a big deal back in the day. In fact, no one really cared so much about them. Sure, they had to be either gold or silver to match the embellishments on the outfit, but other than that I highly doubt anyone actually paid much attention. Nowadays, however, the trend has changed. For some reason, the heels a bride wears has become a statement. The heels are especially photographed to keep in the wedding album as a tick-box of possibly wealth or a statement of style. I guess it’s the equivalent of how women used wear all the jewellery they owned making them a showpiece. Nevertheless, it means a lot of thought must be put in to this purchase.
A lot of brides will begin by choosing a brand or a particular design which they like. They will start searching for their dream heel in an attempt to out-do all other brides and put their best foot forward, literally! The question here, though, should not just be: ‘Do these heels look good?’ but also ‘Are these heels comfortable?!’ Now, before you jump to the conclusion that I’m saying choose comfort over the brand – that’s not quite what I mean. Let me explain.
For my own wedding I struggled to find gold heels. I looked absolutely everywhere, far and wide, to try and find a nice pair of gold heels. I managed to buy a pair of Kurt Geiger heeled sandals in a brass gold colour which perfectly complimented my outfit. For my wedding reception I needed silver and I bought the most beautiful light silver fabric Chanel peep toes. After wearing both, I found that because the Kurt Geigers were so high (at least 5inches) I couldn’t really walk and was desperate to take them off asap. My Chanel heels, on the other hand, were perfect because they were completely cushioned with a small heel which meant I could happily enjoy the day without worrying about the pain of walking in uncomfortable shoes.
After having that experience, I truly believe it’s necessary to make sure, regardless of how much you spend, you really make sure the heels are comfortable. The photo of the shoes is not worth the painful experience and in reality no one really sees your shoes under a long floor length gown, lehenga or gharara anyway. Take my advice… Prioritize comfort before style but keep style in mind. Don’t compromise on what you want or what you need. At the end of the day, it’s your day and both comfort and style is what will make your day enjoyable!
