I’ll be honest, I didn’t really pamper myself much before my wedding. I kind of felt like I have so much to do, I don’t have time to indulge in these sorts of activities. Having said that, I’m making up for it now. Post-wedding every week I’m trying something new. My grandma used to always tell me how my scalp is dry and I should use coconut oil. She’ll be so proud when she finds out I use coconut oil in my hair every week now. My mother in law always keeps lemon peels (lemons cut in half and the juice squeezed out) for me to rub on my hands combined with white sugar. Literally it works like magic! So now my latest favourite pastime is googling the next best DIY scrub to try out and actually, they’re pretty easy and quick to do!

Disclaimer: These work for me but they may not necessarily work for everyone. If in doubt, try a small area first before trying on your whole body.

  1. The Moisturising Exfoliator

    1/2 cup Brown Sugar
    1/2 cup Pure Coconut Oil
    1/2 teaspoon Vanilla

Start by melting the coconut oil. In it’s pure form, coconut oil is a white solid so it needs to be heated to become a transparent liquid. Mix in the sugar and vanilla. If you’re quick enough the scrub will remain warm making it much more luxurious when applied!

  2. The Cellulite Reducer

    1/2 cup Almond Oil
    1/3 cup Coffee Granules

The Asian Wedding Blog - Coffee

Ok – my measurements might be a bit off on this one. Basically, take as much coffee you want and completely drown the granules in oil. The ratio should be more oil to coffee just because granules can be abrasive on the skin so you want to make sure the oil stops the possibility of the rough edges on granules harming the skin. This is kind of a 3 in 1 scrub. It exfoliates, reduces the appearance of cellulite and moisturises the skin! Just mix the ingredients together and scrub away. It’s as simple as that!

This works like a charm. I tried it on my arms and I was amazed. The appearance of cellulite is visibly reduced for about a week so this one works well as a temporary solution for short-term immediate results. Great for any event coming up!

  3. The Skin Glow Remedy

    1/2 teaspoon Tumeric Powder
1/2 cup Masoor Daal (I think it’s called Split Red Lentils)
    1/2 cup Milk
    1 tablespoon Coconut Oil

The Asian Wedding Blog - Turmeric Powder
The Asian Wedding Blog - Masoor Daal
The Asian Wedding Blog - Coconut Oil 2
The Asian Wedding Blog - Milk

Grind the masoor daal in a food processor to make a powder. Heat the coconut oil to melt it. This will allow it to blend into the mixture easily. Mix all the ingredients together and your scrub is ready to use.

If used regularly, this one is sure to give your skin a glow!

  4. The Lime Skin Detox

    1 Lime
    1/2 cup Salt
    2 tablespoons Olive Oil

The Asian Wedding Blog - Lime
The Asian Wedding Blog - Salt
The Asian Wedding Blog - Olive Oil 2

Grate the rind of the lime and put aside. Squeeze out the juice from the lime. Mix the juice, salt, olive oil and rind together to make the scrub. Gently rub on to the skin in circular motions. If the scrub feels too rough against the skin, add more olive oil.
