A crucial part of any Asian wedding is deciding what songs to dance to at the mehndi. If your family is anything like mine, you’ll want your songs and choreographed dances to be better than the opposition! We’re quite competitive, but why not? That’s the fun in a wedding. So… I thought why not put up a list of potential mehndi song ideas for you guys to choose from. Let’s start with January 2017:
1. The Humma Song – OK Jaanu
This is a definite crowd pleaser and one of my favourite songs of the moment. Remakes of songs generally don’t do well and aren’t as great as the original – especially when the original was and potentially still is amazing; but the makers of this song got it spot on – music artists take note, if you want to remake a song, this is how you do it!

2. Kala Chashma Remix – DJ Chetas & Lijo George
No doubt the original of this song is a great dance song, but I’m sure you’ll agree it’s a bit overplayed now. When performing a dance at the mehndi you need songs that everyone know and love so that they cheer. You also need songs that are unique and different. But people don’t cheer when they don’t know a song right? What’s the solution? You dance to an amazing remix of a popular song!
3. Baliye – Coke Studio 9 Episode 2
I absolutely love Coke Studio renditions of traditional classics. This version of Laung Gawacha merged with Baliye has so much energy it just makes you want to jump up and dance… even though it’s not your everyday typical dance song!
4. Udi Udi Jaaye – Raees
Are you looking for a Dandiya song? Look no further. This song would be perfect for an all girls dance with dandiya in a large circle around the dancefloor. If done correctly, completely synchronised and if everyone wears lehngas (an added bonus), it would just lift the event to another level. Nothing beats a well executed traditional dance.
5. Urban Chhori – Dilbagh Singh
A fun punjabi song is always a must at any wedding. This song is a good mix of western dance, punjabi and Bollywood. The tune of the chorus actually sounds like an upbeat verison of Dance Ke Legend – Hero (also a great dance song). Check it out and let me know if you think the same:
6. The Break Up Song – Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
Ok, you can choose for yourself whether this song is appropriate. Some people might be offended and others may think it’s just a song so it doesn’t matter. There is no doubt that this is a fun song though!
7. Go Pagal – Jolly LLB 2
What do you need for a mehndi dance song… a good beat, and this song definitely has that!
8. Lar Gaiyaan – Dobara Phir Se
This is a sweet one. A gentle track maybe for the family/parents to dance to. It’s always nice to throw in a light hearted meaningful number.

9. Gal Ban Gayi Remix – DJ Aqeel Ali
If you loved Sukhbir back in the day (which I’m sure you did) this song will bring back memories! I wouldn’t recommend the whole version but the chorus and random chunks of this is pretty good!
10. Luv Letter – The Legend of Michael Mishra
This is a few months old but has recently become popular after Urwa Hocane danced on it at her wedding to Farhan Saeed. Don’t go by the video, this could be a really cute opening girls dance! Remember, start with the slow and sweet then end with the most energetic!
